May 2023 was a particularly bad month for healthcare data breaches. 75 data breaches of 500 or more healthcare records were reported to the HHS’ Office for Civil Rights (OCR) in May.
For the first time since 2015, there was a year-over-year decline in the number of data breaches reported to the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
